<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Once again, it has been too long in between blog posts. I have returned to full-time work - but it is a little less crazy than at the start of the year so I think I am keeping my sanity. Sewing helps with this, but I am not the type of person to sew when I am busy. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">This dress is my latest version of the Skater style dress (but using a pattern that I had in the stash). The pattern is Kwik Sew 3472. I ended up tracing a new pattern after sewing my <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/kwik-sew-3472-another-green-knit-dress.html" target="_blank">last dress</a> because <strike>the last dress was basically hacked</strike> there were many adjustments I needed to make. I traced a smaller sized bodice, reduced the length of the bodice and lower hem by 5cm each and my my regular sloping shoulders adjustment.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">The fabric is a crinkle knit that I bought at a <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/i-feel-like-fabric-hog.html" target="_blank">designer fabric sale</a> last year. The neckline looks crooked because the crinkle unfolds after you cut it and the hem in raw because I needed to cut it straight. When I took pictures, the hemline is not so bad after all, the neckline I can live with. I had to make a knit slip to wear under this as it is a little on the sheer side. I used the pattern pieces as a guide and kind of winged it and it worked out. The edges are finished with picot elastic.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Next up are black wool pants. A bought this great herringbone weave black wool at my local Bargain Box store for a song. The pattern is from a Burda Easy Fashion magazine. I made adjustments years ago before having a pants block done and made some in a <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/cant-have-enough-pants-my-cheater.html" target="_blank">navy/black wool</a>. They are always so comfortable and hang nice so I thought I would make it up again, even though I have the same pattern traced up and adjusted with the pants block. Somehow my adjustments work better.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MNBOWPzyK61CovGLqRupnyiHckK_0VXyhNiDK4d5P0cTAsHSwXKZtwtBcdCvFE8uHYYaRHLA_xGfyTyP6QI2AF4Hd9aMRyWmbBQqUNYqMu8Bs3zE-BijXyI8CUCLkIHj9xkWGQ/s1600/100_5298.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MNBOWPzyK61CovGLqRupnyiHckK_0VXyhNiDK4d5P0cTAsHSwXKZtwtBcdCvFE8uHYYaRHLA_xGfyTyP6QI2AF4Hd9aMRyWmbBQqUNYqMu8Bs3zE-BijXyI8CUCLkIHj9xkWGQ/s1600/100_5298.JPG" height="640" width="392" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">I know skinny pants are the thing, but I just love the cut of bootleg pants.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBKogXtcvqBURh649AcdkcOAbXF48BiIUKCvleuqLqCY-h_G_E1SLlR3Axb7GC8D8P4LRhQ8ubkT7u9D-GvR_7ADP2aQkJi35fqXGgY_O9DpUdZ0Ivw1zJ_6VX91zk676KKyZ8jA/s1600/100_5301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBKogXtcvqBURh649AcdkcOAbXF48BiIUKCvleuqLqCY-h_G_E1SLlR3Axb7GC8D8P4LRhQ8ubkT7u9D-GvR_7ADP2aQkJi35fqXGgY_O9DpUdZ0Ivw1zJ_6VX91zk676KKyZ8jA/s1600/100_5301.JPG" height="640" width="282" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Just chucking this picture in here, because I use this blog and refer to previous makes when I am sewing new things. I bought this sweater knit fabric at the designer fabric sale last year and it is lovely. However, it is very much like a hand knit and just horrible to cut up and sew. I had to overlock all the edges before I sewed them together. There was distortion and the whole thing just annoyed me. On top of it, the neckline became super stretchy and the cuffs where lumpy. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">I made this months ago and the other week I decided to give it a shot and wear it to work. It is actually quite snuggly and the neckline eventually stretches out at the back as well as the front so it doesn't look as bad as when you first put it on. There is no way I am refashioning it due to its unstableness, but I will be worn at least around the house. The patterns is Kwik Sew 2874 version A with version C neckline.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvp_c9hBo2E9xX9m1tSXX2hRyxlSnIqLGDZKiktSToCyUZma3aOO4mca8s8GRXyO9EVSs46HQNY1mTgZZ36Lk19Yl187CV95yQ6YPTmAgWcxFDZHnFx6rExeP4YAI-ibCxpPSUtA/s1600/100_5318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvp_c9hBo2E9xX9m1tSXX2hRyxlSnIqLGDZKiktSToCyUZma3aOO4mca8s8GRXyO9EVSs46HQNY1mTgZZ36Lk19Yl187CV95yQ6YPTmAgWcxFDZHnFx6rExeP4YAI-ibCxpPSUtA/s1600/100_5318.JPG" height="640" width="312" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Lastly we have the outfit I entered in the local show in May. There was a casual wear category this year, right up my ally, so I made a tee and some jeans.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9avgW-T1nRvZ_cs7-Lzk0gT9ICVzrtMZjF9EPRfqdY4CrWs6ETdqdviaxCCQu-t4HyUud9RKCr31xS9FfyA2rQh5gzN8Sakr8_rm_WyZyB9G3DddXwlIEKIpyJj3PuxAn9Q0Y_Q/s1600/100_5316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9avgW-T1nRvZ_cs7-Lzk0gT9ICVzrtMZjF9EPRfqdY4CrWs6ETdqdviaxCCQu-t4HyUud9RKCr31xS9FfyA2rQh5gzN8Sakr8_rm_WyZyB9G3DddXwlIEKIpyJj3PuxAn9Q0Y_Q/s1600/100_5316.JPG" height="640" width="298" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The t-shirt is Burda's gathered sleeve raglan from issue <span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">2/13 (# 127), which I have made <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2WAg5fowy5he_BVswxiIWhU_Bw2ho0SX-RfBarOddSC4-hw6apqiEMuCr2GPcq-pE4iSGpM2XXu31iX4W4B-SsqKpAjCFvLpCsG3002qn3TpcYYwBKvEhM6k5WaDVVw0GKUjqYg/s1423/002.JPG" target="_blank">before</a>. The jeans are Jalie of course, I think this is my fifth version of the pattern. Like <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/jalie-jeans-finally-something-to-show.html" target="_blank">last year's pair</a>, I straightened the leg seam.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVj7fky3JevxqUEIlSUiSbYtPmvbY3J2PoK1mHKpT7-kcQP3dPlWLLhbi6b8CO7-2NuQ89bKKnQF1zBDHTCZHQe88b24flPzmNBB0YfcI2n-uaDgifVUR_EBqA51TfyzwLX9Xmg/s1600/100_5311.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitVj7fky3JevxqUEIlSUiSbYtPmvbY3J2PoK1mHKpT7-kcQP3dPlWLLhbi6b8CO7-2NuQ89bKKnQF1zBDHTCZHQe88b24flPzmNBB0YfcI2n-uaDgifVUR_EBqA51TfyzwLX9Xmg/s1600/100_5311.JPG" height="640" width="382" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">I really like the cut of the Burda shirt. I did have another top that I planned to enter in with the jeans which had seam details the went with the semi-circle topstitching, but it did not sit well on my body.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmqJ1J8tWm99SLAFiaI_CGzIz53waIPoOZKUCOB5uYX3yUe1D83jzuFx2VNO0vNrtHgslPfUby-H5JV8xEhDsu3BggS8mD0WcC2kxVZx4fUVFgw1lveXDDBKmhBr98JysBGPmNcg/s1600/100_5312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmqJ1J8tWm99SLAFiaI_CGzIz53waIPoOZKUCOB5uYX3yUe1D83jzuFx2VNO0vNrtHgslPfUby-H5JV8xEhDsu3BggS8mD0WcC2kxVZx4fUVFgw1lveXDDBKmhBr98JysBGPmNcg/s1600/100_5312.JPG" height="640" width="246" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">I spent ages topstiching with my old Princess machine, which inspired my Mother's Day gift of a Singer 99 with hand crank.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">I still have a pair of pants, a dress and three tops to photograph at least. No doubt they will make it onto the blog at some stage in the future. Thanks for reading.</span>Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05019355236929550523noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25256976.post-85323380691855409602014-07-13T16:33:00.001+10:002014-07-13T16:33:30.058+10:00Catching up on a few projects - pride comes before a fall.School holidays are nearly over - I am so pleased I found my sewjo again! I went away to Melbourne to see Les Miserables (amazing BTW) and when I got back I was keen to sew. I was sewn most days since then and rediscovered how much I just love to sew. When my life is busy, I don't dream of sewing. I am lazy and dream of sleep or vegging out. If I do sew, I make something really quick to get that wonderful feeling that I have accomplished something (a garment) rather than just collected something (more fabric).<br />
<br />
First up is a denim pinafore for my daughter. I used Ottobre 6/2009 #32. It has princess seams, a curved waistband and the skirt is pleated.<br />

<br />
For like the first time ever, Jalisa's measurements are pretty much spot on with her height measurements! So easy to trace one sized pattern for one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4xDcHDzWzKN8VGySpI_6OxrHRmXaKrjVaCRX-zxVZnRQTkN6Z5IeNYr2c8cu7D_zWnpDih6BTcK9ahtB_woLoLea7b1RDylPO8JqRlxUikIYFc5hYWXl-bGg2ldM-LkHAiHMQ7A/s1600/back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4xDcHDzWzKN8VGySpI_6OxrHRmXaKrjVaCRX-zxVZnRQTkN6Z5IeNYr2c8cu7D_zWnpDih6BTcK9ahtB_woLoLea7b1RDylPO8JqRlxUikIYFc5hYWXl-bGg2ldM-LkHAiHMQ7A/s1600/back.jpg" height="640" width="315" /></a></div>
Everything came together nicely. I used my "new" Singer 99 (with added hand crank) to get perfect topstitching. I love how older machines got through anything. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3C85wOiJYIogL2ckM_7V00TR2VkxMJVXUFTOOe5vr658TpJbalFShY89-HyKkow5OZQQMmo8ry5xtyJ9JfowdlURNn4Ky3hF-sLLgcrypv319A3WrCHI1dplFKvnrRx-JMMd5A/s1600/outside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3C85wOiJYIogL2ckM_7V00TR2VkxMJVXUFTOOe5vr658TpJbalFShY89-HyKkow5OZQQMmo8ry5xtyJ9JfowdlURNn4Ky3hF-sLLgcrypv319A3WrCHI1dplFKvnrRx-JMMd5A/s1600/outside.jpg" height="320" width="238" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used some Japanese cotton for the facing and some sunsilky for the lining.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2Be5WdWqd2qAhG2Y9D9GgsCY2WUgfDtrAGUOOK_hb47AuczUmABHecNk0ML2Ip3na51JfbJZXfeSEJ7DEI_CbSh8bEgJTtWyOJbS8seEPEX-2WX0Jk9f2XYBsJ0kmV7P2g8k2ug/s1600/lining.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2Be5WdWqd2qAhG2Y9D9GgsCY2WUgfDtrAGUOOK_hb47AuczUmABHecNk0ML2Ip3na51JfbJZXfeSEJ7DEI_CbSh8bEgJTtWyOJbS8seEPEX-2WX0Jk9f2XYBsJ0kmV7P2g8k2ug/s1600/lining.jpg" height="320" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I actually made this skirt a while back. I took some more pictures but I must have deleted them from the memory card. My old computer used to save stuff from my memory card automatically, but apparently not my new one. I bought this wool blend fabric as a remnant in a <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/i-feel-like-fabric-hog.html" target="_blank">designer sale last year</a>. It is a fabulous piece of fabric, nice and hefty but it has a large pattern woven into it. I thought a simple A-line skirt would work with the pattern, so chose Burdastyle magazine 03-2010-105.<br />
<br />
It has two darts front and back, a facing and invisible zipper in the side. The type of pattern I would normally overlook/avoid. Perfect for this fabric though. I added lining as well. I used the same sunsilky lining as in my daughter's dress. When it was finished and I tried it on, I was quite distressed. This was the first time that I had tried sunsilky lining (a polyester which is apparently anti-static) but it rustled. The skirt was loud! I ended up wearing it the next day and with tights, it is not so bad. I have actually worn this skirt a surprising amount.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA33U1LjDA7q03WHl18SfA68w_M_iZH_qVUwuJJOTu2ocsfBAibby-X6AV9AyIh74AbmSTkVuG8k81q3TNHSigUvJCw2CP5yKrJS3V3VhCsnLQ0QMU1W17doU23rPYbYK4A1KFzQ/s1600/100_5257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA33U1LjDA7q03WHl18SfA68w_M_iZH_qVUwuJJOTu2ocsfBAibby-X6AV9AyIh74AbmSTkVuG8k81q3TNHSigUvJCw2CP5yKrJS3V3VhCsnLQ0QMU1W17doU23rPYbYK4A1KFzQ/s1600/100_5257.JPG" height="400" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
I have also sewn this skirt. I had some stretch denim left over from jeans that I made last year. I had a flip through all my Burda magazines but the only skirt that seemed suitable for a denim skirt was a pattern I had made before, <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/i-found-my-sewjo-hooray.html" target="_blank">Burda 03-2005-126</a>. I could have purchased another pattern (like the <a href="http://grainlinestudio.com/2012/09/18/new-pattern-32001-moss-mini-skirt/" target="_blank">Grainline Moss</a> skirt) but I have more than enough patterns and besides, my printer needs ink.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0d9-NQ3buArMglDNcj-4R7FiT6McqGJZX61jdGyiZMd2w3V7Fx8XcB_y4lpXsiEGB8BBoR1XH708iAZ092u7-7fWhz27DBwZtVCyNkLS38WDKOIpKfjfGzwVkXOtq2iSYn88F6w/s1600/front2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0d9-NQ3buArMglDNcj-4R7FiT6McqGJZX61jdGyiZMd2w3V7Fx8XcB_y4lpXsiEGB8BBoR1XH708iAZ092u7-7fWhz27DBwZtVCyNkLS38WDKOIpKfjfGzwVkXOtq2iSYn88F6w/s1600/front2.jpg" height="400" width="250" /></a></div>
I changed the Burda pattern slightly. There is an inverted pleat at the centre front that I eliminated. I changed the invisible zipper to a fly front and I ended up leaving the patch pockets off. They looked weird because they were close to the topstitching for the zipper and it looked really uneven.<br />

As I was sewing this, I was having smug, gloating thoughts about how amazing my Singer 99 is with topstitching - how it sews through anything. Yes, it really does sew through anything. Fingernails included. Have no idea how this really happened. I was using a hand crank for goodness sakes. I have never, ever sewn through my finger and I have sewn since I was a teenager.<br />

It was a disco party after all. We found the perfect fabric at Spotlight, a navy mesh covered in silver and navy sequins.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">How hard could it be, I thought. It should take 30 minutes, maybe a little longer if I include cutting. I wanted a simple tank style dress, fully lined to hide all the threads. I used an Ottobre t-shirt pattern as the basis, lengthened and flared, added a back seam, omitted the sleeves. This is the dress I ended up with, but more than 4 hours later.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Apparently sewing over sequins is a big no no for my overlocker. It chucked a nana after 2cm of sewing, snapping the needle several times and letting it fly towards my eye. Only at that time did I recall thinking I had seen people unpicking sequins in the seam allowance. It took FOREVER to unpick all those suckers but my princess needed to wear something.</span><br />

I made my first (unblogged) version of Burdastyle magazine #103 from 5/2011 last year. I am always on the look out for pull on woven tops as I seem to wear these a lot for work. It has raglan sleeves and 4 small pleats at the centre front.<br />
<br />
When I made it last year, I actually made it in a length between #102 and #103 (which are essentially the same pattern, as well as #104 the dress - no idea why these are deemed three separate patterns). Version 1 had the split sleeves but for this version I just sewed the seam shut.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The top can be worn belted or not. You can see how it blouses over the belt in the photo above. It does look a little maternity when not belted but I like how cool and comfortable it is this way. <br />

These were very quick makes. I made both of them in a couple of hours. I found the world's easiest way of getting the perfect length of bias tape - I just sewed on most of the way around and then followed the directions <a href="http://www.callajaire.com/2014/02/make-your-own-bias-tape-bias-piecing.html" target="_blank">here</a> - just without the glue. No idea how I was doing it previously - just bumbling along until it looked rightMariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05019355236929550523noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25256976.post-11011864904584150822014-03-09T16:29:00.003+10:002014-03-09T16:29:56.323+10:00Cherry blouse of doom<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This shirt started off as Burda #119 from Burda magazine 7/2007. I was looking for something to use up a cherry print cotton voile that had sat in my stash for years and was crying out to be made into a shirt.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCFOsbvKubbzF200tYWSpAUONMHf5Xwev7agUKge2hfp1-7mbuvUURplf3LTPK1Z40GbL-pTVVAucXq-LkVZN2r-W6kcpr1WS4S3EnF5PDi2bqR76SFPdFsy6PWzgFI0eINfMew/s1600/050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPCFOsbvKubbzF200tYWSpAUONMHf5Xwev7agUKge2hfp1-7mbuvUURplf3LTPK1Z40GbL-pTVVAucXq-LkVZN2r-W6kcpr1WS4S3EnF5PDi2bqR76SFPdFsy6PWzgFI0eINfMew/s1600/050.JPG" height="400" width="251" /></a></div>
This was one of <em>those</em> tops. It was extra time consuming because I decided to underline each piece (the fabric was too sheer and I don't really want to wear a singlet in summer). As I was pressing out a stubborn crease mark (years of sitting folded in the stash) , the dye from the cherries bled in some places. This was after a rigorous pre-wash. The placket band turned out looking rubbish so I changed the front to have the placket running all the way and recut the band. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I originally made this top to wear to work. However, it has been sitting in my wardrobe for weeks. The blouse is also a little short because I made adjustments to the length above the waist and did not think to add some length back in. There is a gap between the bottom of my blouse and the shorts. <em>Ain't nobody got time for that. </em>These pants are a slightly different coloured red but there is not gap so I may still be able to make it work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKe2jwl_Qmtl7Bj0oanJwhrbjaxYWj2jCOXEJhJFFcznIBu8h-31PwRpIsU-5EukklP9wPW35-HWXwv9i4bzUucyr58UgF7EFuAk2PlelcTzM5SsFQXb7EmhzujXlBt-S1dnmN-g/s1600/061.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKe2jwl_Qmtl7Bj0oanJwhrbjaxYWj2jCOXEJhJFFcznIBu8h-31PwRpIsU-5EukklP9wPW35-HWXwv9i4bzUucyr58UgF7EFuAk2PlelcTzM5SsFQXb7EmhzujXlBt-S1dnmN-g/s1600/061.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
There are two things I don't like about the pattern. Firstly is the weird pleats on the back neckline - I did not pay much attention when I traced the pattern. I really think some darts would look better. It looks like an error in sewing rather than a design element. The other is a felt like the gathers ended too low. I really don't need gathering over my stomach. It needs to start and finish at least 5cm higher up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFgENhiu5vV6nQENxEaJWgG5DaHTUPeOGmGv5YIBdQvSTxYreA2JeqtTEHpNKXG1i6R3uAYBnEYTo4nvw5w11mm3J8FZBjJ4J4UxuSgpg7Nb2B6IBTwslMtqhRxf0NEiWip7BsxA/s1600/064.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFgENhiu5vV6nQENxEaJWgG5DaHTUPeOGmGv5YIBdQvSTxYreA2JeqtTEHpNKXG1i6R3uAYBnEYTo4nvw5w11mm3J8FZBjJ4J4UxuSgpg7Nb2B6IBTwslMtqhRxf0NEiWip7BsxA/s1600/064.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
My solution for the not enough button problem was to not make buttonholes in the collar. I never button this bit up anyway. I am sure you could understand I did not want to waste more time running to the shops to buy a couple of buttons for a top that was taking much more time than it should have.<br />

My blog is really limping along at the moment. I seem to have no desire to take the time to photograph my sewing but at the same time I want to keep a visual record of what I have created. I expect to blog in dribs and drabs again this year and I will be happy if I can photograph most of my sewn items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First up is this striped ponte skirt. I have always followed the rule of no vertical stripes on my lower half because of my pear shape. However, I just want to get on with sewing this year without overthinking and I thought this fabric (and the amount I had) would make a great skirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBbBBbr1_4GGmFn5wRhzvTQ2v9MxqCFEXarm4RU8LGhyphenhyphenGpLUlzWdxU-rKHn4BbR0XPLkO5k2e4Od2Fb2gNmacgzbfDMOmYUpj9PkdNxf6r8HbiH7Uzi0DK_yLjAGEUAyKBsj3jzA/s1600/100_5157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBbBBbr1_4GGmFn5wRhzvTQ2v9MxqCFEXarm4RU8LGhyphenhyphenGpLUlzWdxU-rKHn4BbR0XPLkO5k2e4Od2Fb2gNmacgzbfDMOmYUpj9PkdNxf6r8HbiH7Uzi0DK_yLjAGEUAyKBsj3jzA/s1600/100_5157.JPG" height="640" width="422" /></a></div>
I wore it to work and received tons of compliments so I think I did okay with my choice. This is such an easy make but it is so comfortable being a knit. I bought this fabric last year and <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/i-feel-like-fabric-hog.html" target="_blank">my aim</a> was to use all of pieces before their next sale. The pattern is an adapted Kwik Sew 3032.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWYRnJDae8rPRIFe4lcTM-Z56uZFjeb8n5hyphenhyphenttN6-_BkRJj15Tr0idZqqc9V1bksFce97f7a_JRNkYvsOlwxzYSX2Zexvk8_eiCJ4tm-wcd01FDAFd3_-ughK8tZrVg8RlwkMeQ/s1600/100_5159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWYRnJDae8rPRIFe4lcTM-Z56uZFjeb8n5hyphenhyphenttN6-_BkRJj15Tr0idZqqc9V1bksFce97f7a_JRNkYvsOlwxzYSX2Zexvk8_eiCJ4tm-wcd01FDAFd3_-ughK8tZrVg8RlwkMeQ/s1600/100_5159.JPG" height="400" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up is some shorts for my daughter. I made a huge error when tracing and used my son's pattern size. This is the first time I have ever done that and was not fun to realise when I had spent hours on the topstitching! Ooops. They do still fit her - the funny thing is I traced the exact same size as her other ones from 2011 that I was trying to replace. I am still debating whether I pass these on to a friend's daughter or not. I had already cut out the cord version so made those a little bigger with a smaller seam allowance.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSLapVrjWhy2q73JZmmYrvjMqXatJinx9od4K5i1wmd8DCiohRlq1VSGGEMDVH9GZM5MYMQvXa4rRZyOtN1CoF7YVjE7QrsxLxGn7AGlJJvU1bFVMpcbjDcBH7PllXSrGtQQXMrQ/s1600/100_5164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSLapVrjWhy2q73JZmmYrvjMqXatJinx9od4K5i1wmd8DCiohRlq1VSGGEMDVH9GZM5MYMQvXa4rRZyOtN1CoF7YVjE7QrsxLxGn7AGlJJvU1bFVMpcbjDcBH7PllXSrGtQQXMrQ/s1600/100_5164.JPG" height="640" width="420" /></a></div>
This yellow linen was another <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/i-feel-like-fabric-hog.html" target="_blank">designer sale</a> item. I used my tried and true woven shorts pattern based on an 2005 Burda magazine pattern. The linen was too see through for my liking so I underlined it with a cotton fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_kAD7FehQVtI0pYcUoKFBZT3rIzhbxKgppV8PXRLoxeWvAjltdyIN_tWExYwgZSRzb5WBD061RVdBoS-i59FU04S2oCYUkBsh6sSv4fc360_udkWPYtpKPbEmSgm2mAzgAzOUYw/s1600/100_5162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_kAD7FehQVtI0pYcUoKFBZT3rIzhbxKgppV8PXRLoxeWvAjltdyIN_tWExYwgZSRzb5WBD061RVdBoS-i59FU04S2oCYUkBsh6sSv4fc360_udkWPYtpKPbEmSgm2mAzgAzOUYw/s1600/100_5162.JPG" height="640" width="376" /></a></div>
The underlining helped with wrinkling although these photos were taken before I sat down at home.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I made this skirt spur of the moment when my plans for the day fell through. I had bought the fabric online intending it to be a dress but it was more lightweight than I expected and was not really suitable for a sheath dress. I thought it would make a good skirt or tank top. When I was laying out my skirt pattern, I realised a could cut out both, so I did. The pattern is one I <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/keeping-it-real.html" target="_blank">drafted myself</a>, with 6 flared panels and a yoke style waistband. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have made a couple of other garments, including a blouse that caused me so much grief, but I will need to take those photos again. I forgot to put the memory card in my camera.<br />

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I am finally getting around joining <a href="http://sewhopefull.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/top-5-of-2013-hits-and-misses.html" target="_blank">Gillian</a> in reflecting on my Top 5 of 2013. A little late but our annual beach holiday began earlier than normal and went for longer and I ran out of time to post before we left.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">2013 was a challenging year for me sewing wise. Returning to work full-time after only working part-time since having kids was sure to cut in on my sewing time. I did manage to sew 51 garments, only 10 less than 2012. Surprisingly, I did sew more garments for me (and way less for the kids!). </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Oops, there are a number of projects I never got around to blogging about, and some of them belong here!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXB2TOoBLwHlCdzoSFMK_1TetrsNL1MogG7ubRcdCILpusRC5xTtMt-d9k95vMTR5zxJOUndXIZcR4uu19XICkShcdICs4x-WweUrniHHezZm6GJAtoPcTZ3FTu1ckGflueLd15Q/s1600/2013+misses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXB2TOoBLwHlCdzoSFMK_1TetrsNL1MogG7ubRcdCILpusRC5xTtMt-d9k95vMTR5zxJOUndXIZcR4uu19XICkShcdICs4x-WweUrniHHezZm6GJAtoPcTZ3FTu1ckGflueLd15Q/s1600/2013+misses.jpg" height="320" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">1. <strong>Grey linen shorts</strong> - Really fabulous apart from the waistband stretching out during the day.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">2. <strong>Purple printed tee</strong> - this worked out okay, but after a year of not that much use, the fabric is becoming limp.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">3. <strong>Blue and white PJ top</strong> - this is a little too big, the straps fall down constantly and it reveals way too much. It would be relegated to sleepwear if it wasn't already a PJ top. I have realised how much I like knit PJs now.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">4. <strong>Grainline Tiny Pocket tank</strong> - I really like the look of this but it just isn't right for me. The dart was way too low and even after raising it for a second go, the bust area just sits funny on me. Kind of pointy-outy. Besides, it is very low cut and I felt exposed when I trialled it at work. I prefer my Sorbetto pattern for my body. I where this tanks to bed now.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">5. <strong>Grey wool pants</strong> - another photo-less garment. The pattern I used was quite loose. I had to take the side seams in a heap and then the pockets were no longer functional. I wore them once and then gained some weight and they were too tight. Blah.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">One of my on going goals each year is to use more fabric than I acquire. This year I bought 68.45m, with 68.25m sewn. After cleaning my sewing room, I donated a further 8m of fabric, not including remnants. I sewed 13.5m of fabric from stash, and added back 13.7m. This equates to using approximately 80% of fabric bought being sewn. Last year I converted 47% to completed garments, so maybe I was considering my purchases more carefully in 2013.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">In 2014 I will be challenging myself to be more organised with my sewing. I made way too many trips to the fabric store to pick up zippers, thread etc mid way through a project. Not only is it a time waste, it gives me an opportunity to procrastinate (of which I am fabulous at) and also tempts me to buy more fabric while at the store.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">I also find that I can over analyse e</span><span style="font-family: Courier New;">xactly what pattern I want to use with what fabric. This makes me overwhelmed and again wastes time. While I don't want to end up with lots of duds, I generally go with my first idea anyway, so this year I want to just get on and sew rather than over think the planning process.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> </div>

I have packed this post with all the projects I have sewn lately. I have really lost the sewing and blogging mojo. Can you believe I had two weeks holiday and only sewed 2 projects (4 if you could the things the kids sewed). Am I the only person who doesn't sew when they are stressed. I tend to vege out and sleep instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First up is a maxi skirt in the peacock knit I purchased back in <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/i-feel-like-fabric-hog.html" target="_blank">August</a>. My goal was to sew everything before next year's sale. So far - 1m! The pattern is based on Kwik Sew 3032 - I just lengthened it and added slits to each side. These are super comfy and perfect for work. Not sure why this is only my third make using this pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb20yew-r7V-lc_6L0EJxM3BRWiRVWcO1UTofMyARTa-sEXQVUQPjjk_8wVaEI3G3Ne9m4COjVusHFTJt6RmWyFIjnGG9djY0zrk9pvDeD-FfZGfeYseHMyEbU5idC0naTUrAt6w/s1600/035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb20yew-r7V-lc_6L0EJxM3BRWiRVWcO1UTofMyARTa-sEXQVUQPjjk_8wVaEI3G3Ne9m4COjVusHFTJt6RmWyFIjnGG9djY0zrk9pvDeD-FfZGfeYseHMyEbU5idC0naTUrAt6w/s640/035.JPG" width="378" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up is some PJs from a Burda magazine. The pattern number is 128 from 12/2008. I intended to make the nightie but did not quite purchase enough fabric. I love the colours in these PJs - reminds me of a holiday or something. I had to redo the elastic in the back so that it sits snug against my back. As you can see, the top is loose compared to the shorts - I am actually a size smaller on the top. I used the Burda boxer shorts pattern but had to make it a little bigger than my normal size. It is pretty tight as it is so next time I will probably go back to my regular pattern from Kwik Sew. The fabric is actually a seersucker. I normally wear knit top PJs in Summer, so will see how I go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0R38ZGR7SWISFSGvGqEnvnXJoG6Y4HrO3s721Z6lMrfBNuSIKhv-42cqvj6spNwBXpy7KWV_aVxKZTMFcoLW3gMyZZMgcKlwTiNE-u0hp5MO1hdw4tqaYdFUt8CleDi_QqXouvQ/s1600/031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0R38ZGR7SWISFSGvGqEnvnXJoG6Y4HrO3s721Z6lMrfBNuSIKhv-42cqvj6spNwBXpy7KWV_aVxKZTMFcoLW3gMyZZMgcKlwTiNE-u0hp5MO1hdw4tqaYdFUt8CleDi_QqXouvQ/s400/031.JPG" width="297" /></a></div>
The next pattern is Burda magazine 111 from 09/2007 <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/wool-sheath-dress.html" target="_blank">again</a>, but this time with a slightly altered neck. This dress was intended to be a weekend at home type dress because I did not have enough fabric to match the pattern, but I actually don't mind wearing it out. I think I was drawn to the lovely blues in this fabric, as I actually dislike the print.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv3FYq0CfWrhYK53ScabTz6c6ua8rLbzr7O15heVUNtkvy6BdbzrnQeUc4ySzLGHENeNSDu18dkVpOgnB64rXbjDyBXkmrHP95jL-m7k-8arDm1iUCoDeIaGWSiSscElQEYQkq-Q/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv3FYq0CfWrhYK53ScabTz6c6ua8rLbzr7O15heVUNtkvy6BdbzrnQeUc4ySzLGHENeNSDu18dkVpOgnB64rXbjDyBXkmrHP95jL-m7k-8arDm1iUCoDeIaGWSiSscElQEYQkq-Q/s640/010.JPG" width="390" /></a></div>
When I made this, I was slightly disappointed because it was sitting around the waist. I had put on a little weight around my thighs and butt and it was pushing the dress upwards. It is hard to tell but it is not really following the curve of my back either, something I will need to address in the future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0dRXH9DPOHGovNv1DlIBD-RcUqFZNsxlPnyW-Z58Cv5OB78esYR3Azt4159RLqfe28koH01sVEf5_687NLKvL0UMvO_AU2mAEnf351dzt2kLxtf9GsM3pTaCYF4IS3M4I5JURCQ/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0dRXH9DPOHGovNv1DlIBD-RcUqFZNsxlPnyW-Z58Cv5OB78esYR3Azt4159RLqfe28koH01sVEf5_687NLKvL0UMvO_AU2mAEnf351dzt2kLxtf9GsM3pTaCYF4IS3M4I5JURCQ/s640/014.JPG" width="346" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP7Hkb2whYZ3OkQ9xXb9Wux5ZvslkaoYQ-nrmqC4FSWGYu1ssnDqZlAQQhxIEvwv9ZDglxov4489PNp4pA6k-qm0rNWDdgOo6AhPaMgvZBPwh_H37lblA3W5SEKCqSUjUqh7aSzg/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP7Hkb2whYZ3OkQ9xXb9Wux5ZvslkaoYQ-nrmqC4FSWGYu1ssnDqZlAQQhxIEvwv9ZDglxov4489PNp4pA6k-qm0rNWDdgOo6AhPaMgvZBPwh_H37lblA3W5SEKCqSUjUqh7aSzg/s640/015.JPG" width="396" /></a></div>
My next dress is a Frankenpattern of 2 new to me patterns. The bodice is from dress 101 02/2011 Burdastyle magazine and the skirt is from dress 107 11/2007 Burda magazine. I loved the neckline and the cut on sleeves of the first dress but did not want a gathered skirt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSv6KfU3XA3lc-MK5_DoiNOrc3dioT0Ya4moKu0zTMpmuckJIQKxEqsyU36wIxHotCTE6Bc3rdjM00jwks7DMs11neWkhsU26hPTXe5quK-dUBrs1tH6F4fHQqHWr4-2PAsel1ow/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSv6KfU3XA3lc-MK5_DoiNOrc3dioT0Ya4moKu0zTMpmuckJIQKxEqsyU36wIxHotCTE6Bc3rdjM00jwks7DMs11neWkhsU26hPTXe5quK-dUBrs1tH6F4fHQqHWr4-2PAsel1ow/s640/021.JPG" width="380" /></a></div>
When I made a muslin of the bodice, I deemed that it was not too low cut for work and kept the neckline as it was. However, with the addition of the weight of the skirt, I feel it is a tad too low. I did staystitch the neckline, but it gapes at the front.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP8h1Ij-QZxoN5UQX70cczY3mkzPLnZG7sH38Cyph0XTORJBj1wcoeN3ddAaEfj2yKwB_X7UUa9mkWz3OYWifyyXMBNpSHWeVNaS9e4Iza8yNR8PghEESeYLSmvtJ77SyLDA_fJw/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP8h1Ij-QZxoN5UQX70cczY3mkzPLnZG7sH38Cyph0XTORJBj1wcoeN3ddAaEfj2yKwB_X7UUa9mkWz3OYWifyyXMBNpSHWeVNaS9e4Iza8yNR8PghEESeYLSmvtJ77SyLDA_fJw/s640/022.JPG" width="272" /></a></div>
The fabric is a stretch sateen print that I picked up at Spotlight on the sales table. I bought the end of the roll (2.25m) but found was enough to work with. I found the bodice was too wide when sewn up, unlike my muslin which was tight. Must be the stretch of the fabric. I took in 2cm from each side s a quick fix.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGrBnIoxiMd6Tw-s1tx2Ewst3a61g3F5osn0OvWLRjQ-WRABXNOv9Hapru8Sw49xH40XQncqfhm1L9kU7dlUukv2s02hPfH44DcCzqs7E_Z-wMUaemC9t0Xixp4oM6yv3sVsofg/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJGrBnIoxiMd6Tw-s1tx2Ewst3a61g3F5osn0OvWLRjQ-WRABXNOv9Hapru8Sw49xH40XQncqfhm1L9kU7dlUukv2s02hPfH44DcCzqs7E_Z-wMUaemC9t0Xixp4oM6yv3sVsofg/s640/023.JPG" width="348" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I edgestitched the tops of the pleats down. I wanted soft pleats but thought it needed a little more structure at the top where it meets the seam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I am going to make this dress or a form of the dress again. This is really my style of dress. Although I realised that I would never wear this style to work like I intended. I just feel too dressed up! I think I will stick to knit dresses - just waiting for my Red Velvet to arrive.</div>

Jalisa needs some new shorts and skirts so I made her a pair of skorts. I have drafted these myself <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/search?q=skorts" target="_blank">before</a> so I was pleased that I remembered what I did last time. I made just one pair to see that they looked right. I intend to make a few more now that I know it fits right.<br />

Skorts are great for my girl. She is active but likes skirts and prefers knits. Her last lot have been in constant rotation and have lasted for years but it was time for new ones. (Goodness, I made the last lot in around 2009/2010)</div>

Finally, my kids have been wanting to sew more and I thought shorts would be a good project. We were going to sew cushions but they painted the fabric and it became really hard, so it was scraped for these. I think they turned out really well. Both shorts are based on the Bert pattern from Ottobre pattern 03/2009. I extended at the top to have a cut on elastic casing, and morphed the two back pieces and just left off the pockets. They both wore them yesterday, which was cute.<br />

I was going to give the pattern a go when I saw the line drawing and recalled a Kwik Sew pattern that has been in my pattern stash for years. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I sought feedback from the ladies over at the <a href="http://www.craftymamas.com.au/forum/" target="_blank">Crafty Mamas Forum</a> who suggested taking in the side seams as well raising the waist seam and taking up the hem. Well, first I chopped 10cm off the bottom hem before deciding to bite the bullet and cut the waist seam out, shorten the bodice, reduce the width and reattach the skirt. Hardly rocket science, I just prefer to unpick and keep the integrity of the pattern as much as possible. The side seams of the skirt had to be fudged to match up with the smaller bodice piece. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">In a quest to try new things, I bought a couple of $5 patterns in a certain Australian chain craft store. I think I bought 3 of the Vogue designer ones, since they are so exxy. I have admired many knit dresses across many blogs, so I picked up a couple with some interesting details.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3UOgoKtBltj_iHX9ypFOtByl4wrr5ybm05cvC67ZYDsxgoHUOFVH2ezIbolpSU1wKvLCuMKprH8copKxvmrs5B1gOPWOL5jNLPGDP6xxWUjP4cS2gV987RgV_P0jzTxLm2Y9UdA/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3UOgoKtBltj_iHX9ypFOtByl4wrr5ybm05cvC67ZYDsxgoHUOFVH2ezIbolpSU1wKvLCuMKprH8copKxvmrs5B1gOPWOL5jNLPGDP6xxWUjP4cS2gV987RgV_P0jzTxLm2Y9UdA/s640/003.JPG" width="420" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This is Vogue 1194, which has gathers and pleats on the bodice, pleats at the front skirt, gathering at the back skir and a twisted front band. Hmm, I am just studying the desription on the back of the pattern and the pattern describes the bodice as being loose fitting. That makes me feel better. When I tried it on, the wedding dress fitting scene from </span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6HRAJJAaDk" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The Proposal movie</span></a><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> came into my head. It is a little looser that I would normally go for, but it is not too bad (I don't think).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V1194.jpg" width="604" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2RB_fxl_OQFNyZ6eg-enKwBcTSpRXufMUwxdY2rMwJdzULE-0ktcCcYK48Hu8gfsFMXeQoBrCDGQMA7N07wrNXRpPnqLftFzCtNsSDqRnyXgq-EYmFE-Ia0Oo1hqbbMs9WtMO1Q/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2RB_fxl_OQFNyZ6eg-enKwBcTSpRXufMUwxdY2rMwJdzULE-0ktcCcYK48Hu8gfsFMXeQoBrCDGQMA7N07wrNXRpPnqLftFzCtNsSDqRnyXgq-EYmFE-Ia0Oo1hqbbMs9WtMO1Q/s640/004.JPG" width="292" /></a></div>
I<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> roughly compared my basic tee pattern to the bodice patterns and I decided to trace a size smaller than indicated on the pattern. If I made it again, I would have to do something about the bodice front, as it fits great everywhere else. I am actually thinking about adding a plain top and using the pleated/gathered skirt for next time. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I really love the twisted front band - the pattern says to match notches but unless I traced the wrong ones, I could not match the notches without it being in the wrong place. I just made sure that the front and back bands met at the side seam.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Green is my favourite colour and apart from <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/two-simple-knit-tops.html" target="_blank">this</a> in a very similar fabric, I don't have many other green garments. I do have some other green fabrics, including a very recent fabric purchase, so maybe I should change that soon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">It has been very spring-like weather here the last few days. It has made me think of spring sewing, which I hope to include some more dresses. As long as the skirt is fairly full and has some type of shoulder coverage, I plan to wear more dresses to work. I have been in a real pants/shorts for work rut and I just need to have more fun with my clothes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">Having said that, I do have plans to make some shorts from the yellow linen I bought recently, inspired by <a href="http://handmadebycarolyn.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/dressing-for-office.html" target="_blank">Carolyn</a> and <a href="http://raindropsandbellyflops.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/yellow-shorts.html" target="_blank">Bernice</a>. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I rarely buy patterns from the larger companies. I actually find the pattern books overwhelming and just have to walk away. I bought this pattern after seeing<a href="http://sewbrunswick.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/sew-simplicity-1802-in-gridlock.html" target="_blank"> Sew Brusnwick's</a> wonderful version. This dress was actually completed in May, but I was only finished it the night before I had to hand it into the local show so never had time to do get decent photos. For some years now, I have been entering a competition held through the local show, with the finals held at the Ekka (Brisbane Show). <span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I actually hadn't planned to enter this year. However, the steward phoned me and asked me whether I was planning to put something in this year, so at the last minute (with less than a fortnight to go), I started planning my entry. I was drawn to the piping and the rounded godets in this pattern. I was really hoping to find a black, white and one other colour cotton print to use for the dress, and I found this print at the local fabric shop. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">At the time when I bought it, I did not realise how sheer it was and I had to go back to the shop to buy some fabric to underline it. By this stage, I had 5 days until the dress had to be in, and all I had was fabric. I cleared my weekend (and DH cleared the house of children). I was hoping for a smooth ride but ended up with a lot more challenges.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhei_SqYtwgHE8ORqaP2LkmTgl0-eaI9AlfsQK29NtJZzoNGzjazPGNo48GTQ78DLZF9CDg4_hdMTbkPd4M7XkBSwZIHRi6O8TEgRJhGQepu74UTZYwga3Epo2A_TCHd55hsrBpMQ/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhei_SqYtwgHE8ORqaP2LkmTgl0-eaI9AlfsQK29NtJZzoNGzjazPGNo48GTQ78DLZF9CDg4_hdMTbkPd4M7XkBSwZIHRi6O8TEgRJhGQepu74UTZYwga3Epo2A_TCHd55hsrBpMQ/s640/008.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I muslined the bodice and decided I would make it in a size 10, a size or two less than the size my measurements should have been. I had read there was plenty of ease but I ahd my fingers crossed that the skirt had enough ease for my pear shape. I made a trip to the fabric store to buy rat's tail and piping cord for the piping. I bought I few different widths to experiement with. To be honest, I can't even remember what I went with. It was black and with the ribbons if that helps. It was not piping cord though. I had to make another trip to the fabric store to buy more since I had not bought nearly enough (I was not piping the godets, so had to estimate what I needed - I was off my a lot!). This is the first time making piping, so I am glad the seams were straight. I can't remember but I think it was from the <a href="http://cherubskiss.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Cherub's Kiss blog</a> or maybe a tip L from Cherub's Kiss put on a <a href="http://craftymamas.com.au/" target="_blank">sewing forum</a>, but it was useful. You sew the piping to one side of the fabric right next to the piping cord, then stitch along the stitch line when sewing the other side of the fabric. Perfect piping. Well, it is a little lumpy at the neckline since I found I did not remove enough of the ends of the cord. Lesson learnt for next time. That was just amatuer hour from me.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The dress has a small zipper inserted into the side seam. I found the was not adequate and just could not get the dress on. I had no idea what to do, since the side seam finishes at the waist. I seriously considered binning the dress at this point. I could not wear it. After some frustrated crying and discussion with my husband, I went to see if I had enough fabric and underlining to cut a half godet plus seam allowance. I cut the other half godet from the original godet. I had to buy another zipper but I could choose a long one that would make it easy for me to fit into without too much trouble. I actually did not have enough underlining, I had to use the original underlining cut int half and not have a seam allowance. I finished the edge with the overlocker and you couldn't really tell when the side seam was folded back.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">the zipper was probably the most shoddy I have put in, ever. It is not invisible but at least I can do the dress up past the piping/thick seams. The hem is finished with purchased bias binding. I had just enough from the 5m packet. The hem is invisible as the slip stithes are attached to the underlining. I sewed the dress across a weekend and hemmed it over three nights. A lot of work went into this sucker and time does heal my pride, which was hurt over this dress. Not my greatest work but the competition is about the impact of the design as well the the workmanship. I promised the competition coordinator that I would be entering next year, I just need to start a little earlier I think.</span>Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05019355236929550523noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25256976.post-71980462623126778382013-08-11T16:37:00.000+10:002013-08-11T17:55:13.527+10:00I feel like a fabric hog<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Black and grey knit - ponte I think. I wanted 2m but there was only 1.2m left on the roll. I will have to think of how best to use this.</span> </div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Yellow linen. This has been on my list for ages, I haven't found any all year until now. I got a little over 1m - I want to make shorts.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">1m of a black and grey wool blend. Again, this was the last on the roll. It was an end of roll kind of sale, the business actually making clothing. I will make a skirt out of this.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">2m of green sweater knit. I wanted sweater knits and I got heaps. Obviously this will be some type of jumper.</span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Birdcage print knit - 2m. Oh look, there are peacocks on there too. The print is quite large scale. I am thinking a dress or maybe a skirt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Now, the remnent table. It was choc a block full of yummy fabrics. I picked up 1.4m+ of a lovely blue sweater knit. Enough for a jumper. That was $10.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">There was about 1.4m of this black textured sweater knit. Will be some type of jumper, maybe a cardigan. $5 for this piece.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I picked up this gorgeous purple sweater knit for $3, but it is only 50cm at its narrowest, and 85cm at the widest. I think I might make a little cropped vest.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The last remnent was 60cm for this yellow textured fabric. I have no idea whether it is a knit or a woven, but I am making it into a scarf. So bright and cheery.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">So that is my haul. I had a lovely chat with the lady working there. I only sewed 1 piece that I bought last year, but my goal is to sew all pieces before the next sale. All up 14.55m.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Courier New;">I am still waiting for Winter to hit my city - I am such a wimp with the cold and require at least a coat by this time of year. I thought something new to wear to work would lift me out of my -the-holidays-are-too-short-I-don't-want-to-go-back-to-work mood I was in. Not sure if it was the new jumper or not, but I was actually happy and maybe a little bit excited about returning to work. I do actually enjoy teaching (love kids learning), just not the rush around in the morning and afternoon, preparing meals etc. And the commute.</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">At the start of each school holidays, I write a list of things I want to do, what I want to clean and what I want to sew. I had found this black embroidered fabric just before the holidays started and thought it would make a good sheath dress so I added it to my list. Now normally, I wouldn't make a dress like this without a reason, but this time I just felt like making it. I am sure I am not alone with doing this, am I?</span></div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The fabric is a rayon polyester blend, probably with a touch of elastane. It is lightly embroidered and has a few sequins here and there (which my camera picks up as white). I used a pattern which I have used <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/sheath-dress-with-sparkle.html" target="_blank">before</a> - Burda magazine # 112 from 5/05 with the neckline from #110 from 12/01. Basically a princess lined sheath dress with a boat neck. I actually bought the fabric for both dresses at the same time. I did not imagine they would be made into the same pattern.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have a few projects to blog about, and seeing as this is only a knit top, I am tacking it on to the end of my dress post. This is the gathered raglan sleeve from Burdastyle 2/13 (# 127). I vaguely remembered I had to shorten the hem based on the review by Fehr Trade but only did 5cm when it could have been triple that. I actually did not have enough fabric for full length sleeves though, so attempted a clumpsy 3/4 sleeve.</span> </div>

<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I used the binding pattern provided by BS, but in my really stretchy fabric, it ended up being a touch too long and so my neckline is wider than intended or it doesn't sit flat. I love the colour though, it is a nice deep blue green cotton elastane fabric from The Fabric Store in Brisbane. I dithered and only got 1.5m but it would have been perfect for a dress had I have purchased more.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I like sewing because I am constantly learning. Even if I think I have solved a problem, I usually create another problem in the meantime. I do try to do my research, but somehow I can never predict my results. Recently I washed a <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/another-bite-at-pencil-skirt.html" target="_blank">pencil skirt</a> that I made last year. The lining is fully enclosed so I assumed I would be okay with not finishing the seams. It came out of the machine all weird and would not lay flat. I discovered a hole at the seam where the seam had shredded and when I felt inside the lining, it seemed the frayed lining seams had tangled and were distorting the skirt. Obviously I need to wash my lined clothes more gently but I vowed to finish all the seams of my clothes, lined or not and try using other materials to line with.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">My next project was my blue pinafore, so I used a cotton sateen for lining and overlocked all the seams. I am sure it will hold up well with the wash, but the sateen catches on my tights and lifts my dress over so slightly (still annoying). So with my next lined project, I thought I would go back to using lining fabric for Winter garments but I will overlock the seams. What I did not anticipate with my overlocker would gather the fabric ever so slightly and make it a little shorter that it was supposed to be. Next time, I will pink the seams and hope for the best (oh, and use a gentle wash too).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtenELoO-agb6hIrRe3i3Kt_FvyvPSEbFl6-RK93sLWfhWScb2YteUrzHiy8zB16pmDJvfvp6Xmqkek_Qc4XyCX1-mVwrD83CxPWtdc9sH28fBcZhAmz-zGIxdjGKJuBmsr6-jZA/s1571/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtenELoO-agb6hIrRe3i3Kt_FvyvPSEbFl6-RK93sLWfhWScb2YteUrzHiy8zB16pmDJvfvp6Xmqkek_Qc4XyCX1-mVwrD83CxPWtdc9sH28fBcZhAmz-zGIxdjGKJuBmsr6-jZA/s640/002.JPG" width="294" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">Anyway, on to the sewing. I used my go-to pencil skirt pattern (Burda magazinne 1/08 #127 without the waistband and with added vent) and the leftover dark blue wool crepe. I really pushed myself to fit as I go but have trouble trying on garments full of pins. I constantly get the sharp ends of pins scraping down my leg and they leave sores. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">I am a huge list maker already, but I have started writing comprehensive lists for construction order, when to baste, adding in all the tips from tutorials and so on to get the best possible outcomes. For this skirt, I used a fashionable stitch's drafting and sewing a <a href="http://www.afashionablestitch.com/pencil-skirt-sewalong/" target="_blank">vent lining</a> , Eugenia's tips for achieving a <a href="http://theworldofeugenia.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/how-i-get-invisible-zipper-looking-neat.html" target="_blank">nice finish at the top of invisible zippers</a> and <a href="http://theworldofeugenia.blogspot.com.au/2009/10/is-this-plainest-skirt-youve-ever-seen.html" target="_blank">creating ease in the skirt lining</a> , Sherry's tute for <a href="http://buzzybeesworld.blogspot.com.au/2010/05/tricks-of-trade-jacket-sleeve-vents.html" target="_blank">mitring hems</a> on vents (Sherry's is for jacket sleeve vents, but it is the same principle)</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKw1Cdw0_uQZWVlTLjsV-cR9D5ZkKJFQvWJjbjIrbSH8SyAzbJxeNxa5JuU2abOu1Cy-X9mmE_E6rOAGnT8bmD9FHdeBnTgYjIA7EFMaO8fJeB6KDpzeRrFh6n9lIsUB_s1pQCAA/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKw1Cdw0_uQZWVlTLjsV-cR9D5ZkKJFQvWJjbjIrbSH8SyAzbJxeNxa5JuU2abOu1Cy-X9mmE_E6rOAGnT8bmD9FHdeBnTgYjIA7EFMaO8fJeB6KDpzeRrFh6n9lIsUB_s1pQCAA/s640/003.JPG" width="232" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">My overlocker dilemma chewed the ease above the vent but I am confident that my seams are not going to shred. And the skirt does not catch on my tights. You can't tell that I used read lining from the outside, can you.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have many projects to document from this term, including some grey wool pants, a petrol coloured knit top and a tiered skirt for my daughter.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I realised when taking photos that I am really out of practise taking photos. I had to take photos over two days and I am extremely stiff and wooden. I can't seem to relax when taking photos - I am paranoid of being caught by a neighbour. It is not like I don't have a legitimate reason should they ask and it seems quite silly when I am writing it down, but I just get embarrassed taking photos of myself.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">I finished Burda <span id="goog_1895184049"></span>#111 from 09/0<span id="goog_1895184050"></span>7 on Saturday. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmux_Q2g3_oq3NWWcm4p7tnaPLQ3OiFwWuH10ztWScWyB3O_YwcFOeBgt1Kc3eqULS71ZvykUo3KIY5GGf9dI_r0du0CoMdENDoAXQcnz15EQP1VBMacf-7ZDMnJpzkkIXswyyAA/s1600/sheath.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmux_Q2g3_oq3NWWcm4p7tnaPLQ3OiFwWuH10ztWScWyB3O_YwcFOeBgt1Kc3eqULS71ZvykUo3KIY5GGf9dI_r0du0CoMdENDoAXQcnz15EQP1VBMacf-7ZDMnJpzkkIXswyyAA/s1600/sheath.gif" /></a></div>
I thought the sheath dress made with a dark blue wool crepe would be great to wear over knit tops in Winter and extend me Winter dress options. The blue crepe must be my oldest stashed fabric, bought back when I was 19 or 20, was always earmarked for pants. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">My enthusiasm waned when I realised the dress was very similar to my high school pinafore dress. Having already purchased the lining and zipper, I attempted to persuade myself to finish the dress but it was slow going. Yesterday I got stuck into it and finished it up to wear last night. I wore it with this tee, but with a denim jacket so the tee is not visible.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I did not bother to read the instructions, so I did not realise that there can be some topstitching along the darts. I have also omitted the belt loops and haven't bothered to make the belt either. I constructed the dress with a lot of basting stitches, so I could easily unpick and take the dress in. Apart from a little at the waist/high hip in the side seam, I did not need to take the dress in like I was expecting. Of course, I wanted a little extra room so I could slip a tee under, but the dress fits well on its own.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I lined the fabric with a cotton sateen, which does catch on the stockings. I just can't seem to find a lining fabric I like. Polyester zaps me no end in Winter and attracts fluff and acetate lining is weak and painful (third time fixing a dress lined with acetate and it has only been washed a handful of times). I wish a knew a local source for rayon lining. I am going to use cotton voile or similar as much as possible until I find something else similar.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I made myself a second Tiramisu after finding myself wearing my <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/the-tiramisu.html" target="_blank">first version</a> to work on a weekly basis. I bought this lovely and bright cotton lycra fabric specifically for this pattern, but in it's first wash (with the fabric for <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/sparkling-new-dress.html" target="_blank">this dress</a>), it developed a few blue stains. Note to self - <strike>don't be lazy </strike>wash only like colours together in their first wash.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsQcbqGLmkNlPIUMhJQzdk0wc98YkKzRXferFBXgF-c-QjQu6PekSc4innvsn8Xuv_RJ_Vvpu1ye10MlbzVPY_2n3JU4EiNpuwcUGbJOt2cSAQOJ29FpmDne3aTZaJJMMpDJMOJA/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsQcbqGLmkNlPIUMhJQzdk0wc98YkKzRXferFBXgF-c-QjQu6PekSc4innvsn8Xuv_RJ_Vvpu1ye10MlbzVPY_2n3JU4EiNpuwcUGbJOt2cSAQOJ29FpmDne3aTZaJJMMpDJMOJA/s640/026.JPG" width="362" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Being the second run through, it went together very quickly. I couldn't remember if I had moved the notches on the pattern like Steph had suggested in an email to me. It does show up some drag lines on the midriff that I don't notice in real life.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZs4QveuZAeNL46Rh2_4_shQL1nfzXHARg5Zzjh1Z7orrr9rKayvGAfo1Cldgeln-DSSae59WSUKTe76__TArArcVzRkZLi2-ak83cc6wWZvnElV42N-ZdgM_5tLH_gD7fPaHbMg/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZs4QveuZAeNL46Rh2_4_shQL1nfzXHARg5Zzjh1Z7orrr9rKayvGAfo1Cldgeln-DSSae59WSUKTe76__TArArcVzRkZLi2-ak83cc6wWZvnElV42N-ZdgM_5tLH_gD7fPaHbMg/s640/027.JPG" width="384" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The weather is starting to cool down now, so I am going to experiement with layers to see how long I can wear this for. I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather - I do like to wear bright colours but need to wear a few long sleeved layers normally, so not sure I would cope wearing the shorts sleeves during a cold day. For my next version. I am thinking of changing the bodice to a tank style and keeping the waistband and skirt portion. Maybe I should think of doing something with sleeves for wintertime. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I should add that to my to-do list which, as like most sewist, is a mile long. I am contemplating a show entry (for which I have less than a month to get done), dreaming of new jackets but currently working on some wool pants which I thought was going to be an easy project but giving me grief with lots of wrinkles.</div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Thursday was a good sewing day. After shopping for groceries, I devoted the day to sewing some pants. Normally I get a bit distracted when sewing for any longer length of time and will usually finish a pants project over 2 or 3 days. I kept going at these since I want to increase my sewing production, and have other projects I want to get onto.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNfejhwLoqZlWomRoVdpjQbvY8cAV9t3IjkzSTISjJ1JPgPl0ILcxztGIO_Mcdu94C64CHO6NcgMiRGqlfZEu4qDxAK8wgLoslH95ar264mlZ1wjyojECKMZgOqPRjQFHv-t75A/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnNfejhwLoqZlWomRoVdpjQbvY8cAV9t3IjkzSTISjJ1JPgPl0ILcxztGIO_Mcdu94C64CHO6NcgMiRGqlfZEu4qDxAK8wgLoslH95ar264mlZ1wjyojECKMZgOqPRjQFHv-t75A/s640/007.JPG" width="382" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The pattern is Jalie 2909. I have made this pattern several times but always as shorts, never actual pants. Like the jeans, I folded out a little of the flare to make the legs more straight. 2.5cm each side seam, so a total of 10cm of flare is removed from each leg.</span><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> The pattern uses a stretch woven pattern. I did add some length to the back crotch length as per usual (based on my pants block) but obviously the block doesn't translate as well. I will continue to make these pants as they are uber comfortable, maybe just trying different alterations each time. I just need to find some more bengaline. This stuff is so lovely.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYhjGH7IORxdMpHfXy8u4128IIrJdGolGqtor6sXPqNVG1wfSF5eeSItXxG5Lflbh_W9w1a1PmRW62CPv7Us5ai4Qi2UfBAu0ZTf70A0CRCXWMrXbypovAFvsVT3WVUVMwjWuXMg/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYhjGH7IORxdMpHfXy8u4128IIrJdGolGqtor6sXPqNVG1wfSF5eeSItXxG5Lflbh_W9w1a1PmRW62CPv7Us5ai4Qi2UfBAu0ZTf70A0CRCXWMrXbypovAFvsVT3WVUVMwjWuXMg/s640/003.JPG" width="296" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I used a charcoal grey cotton/nylon/lycra bengaline, purchased from The Fabric Store in January of last year. There is a slight woven stripe running down the length of the pants. Like the Jalie jeans I just finished, I used a curved waistband borrowed from a Burda pants pattern. Before topstitching around the waistband, I quickly basted the inner band so that it is very neat on the inside.</span></div>

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Saturday was not a great sewing day. I was going great guns when I realised I had made a boo boo and had traced a pattern 2 sizes two big (bad memory - I thought my last My Image pattern was one size larger than my burda pattern, turns out it is actually one size less). The underbust seam is close to my waist and it is huge. And there is not way of fixing it at the moment. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have used Kwik Sew <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/3667" target="_blank">3242</a> before to make the skirt pattern but this was the first time making the top. Not much to write about, I just wanted something simple that wasn't my usual Jalie tee. The fabric is Stella knit from <a href="http://www.craftymamasfabrics.com.au/" target="_blank">Crafy Mamas Fabrics.</a> For some reason, I had a lot of trouble using my coverstich on the binndings. It did not like sewing them and kept missing stitches. Perhaps it was the new green thread I was using, I had already inserted new needles.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The cowl top is from the Winter 2011/12 edition of the My Image magazine. I just left the sleeves off and turned the sleeve allowance in (seeing as I had had a lot of trouble with the bindings on my last knit project). I bought the material from The Fabric Store in Brisbane when they were having their 40% off sale. It is a delightful rayon knit which ended up just being one of those painful fabrics. First, it stretched out when I had washed it. I purchased 1m and ended up with close to 1.7m. And it was off grain. Decided at that point I needed to treat it more carefully and wet the fabric and let it dry flat.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivmpQJbqv6AAd1Tm1LSJ951tOtNzC4R75lnmQj1wrjf5dW7aAQPbD0RXtmAueWIQZIyUT6B0QDuzXf6z6fQyf_3EjFaZavmXzmoZniEKEp9nGqGKdyLQKEAQiFtDGxR4j0kUA_Zw/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivmpQJbqv6AAd1Tm1LSJ951tOtNzC4R75lnmQj1wrjf5dW7aAQPbD0RXtmAueWIQZIyUT6B0QDuzXf6z6fQyf_3EjFaZavmXzmoZniEKEp9nGqGKdyLQKEAQiFtDGxR4j0kUA_Zw/s640/025.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">After letting it dry the second time, it was more on-grain so I cut out the top and sewed it up. The coversitch machine hated it, so I did the arms on the sewing machine and only hemmed it on the CS. After one wash, it has stretched out of shape (my fault,must have cut it off grain after all); shredded at the hem, made a hole where I have topstitched. And it wrinkles like crazy.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I do like the colour though.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I spend a portion of my day at work sitting on the floor. Generally it is when we are playing literacy games that require a flat surface (most desks are at different heights making it near impossible to play memory). I need to sit on the floor to preserve my back - I simmply cannot sit on a chair when kids are on the floor. Most days this term I have worn shorts to work, but I have also started wearing my Tiramisu dress because it's full skirt keeps my modestly when I am on the floor. And it is comfortable and fun.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiPy06zCiKWGjNlpzmdezmBsaNbNTWQzj58NgD1QBTPGGqD66NJpJflS3N3ec59QNEAlJfh40iPEpr5Ll75kEK4C9sG0z3HryNKBR_m2b6DQgXSyUrKqc-y5-9ryV1KLx9-0PxgA/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiPy06zCiKWGjNlpzmdezmBsaNbNTWQzj58NgD1QBTPGGqD66NJpJflS3N3ec59QNEAlJfh40iPEpr5Ll75kEK4C9sG0z3HryNKBR_m2b6DQgXSyUrKqc-y5-9ryV1KLx9-0PxgA/s640/011.JPG" width="386" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> </span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I wanted to make some more knit dresses suitable for work. I have made another unblogged Tiramisu but I wanted something for Winter. I bought this plaid ponte and immediately thought of the perfect pattern to make it in - Burda magazine 9/07 #121, a knit pinafore dress. However, my old university lecturer popped into my head at that moment and I wondered if the dress was practical enough for work with the pegged hemline. He told us to our work attire should be professional, practical and comfortable and I have always stuck by these rules because that is what I do(I used to take it to the extreme and wear joggers in my first year out).</span></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Too bad Dennis. I will be wearing the dress to work whether it fits your rules or not. It is so comfortable and will be great for wearing in with 3/4 and full sleeved tees in all sorts of colours and of course stockings.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> <div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I made the dress entirely on the sewing machine, as I though the overlocker would add to much bulk at the seams. I also wanted to baste the seams first and try on because I was afraid the dress wouldn't fit properly. I shouldn't have worried because the fit is spot on and I am sold on working with ponte. Actually, I lie. I did go back and overlock the seam joining the bodice to the waistband for added stability.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">It has been awhile since I sewed some jeans. Not counting some shorts made with the same pattern, I haven't made jeans since <a href="http://quirkythreads.blogspot.com.au/2011/06/more-jalie-jeans.html" target="_blank">June 2011</a>. It has also been a long time since I used my fabulous blue <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj62PhflRaPd-sEsrob0LqphcW3cIDEG9HD2wMKJ5u1KYap8oP3rajPoSsVPqiUtqC_i2YH3UJ3oIcls_4546QYoH96DEQX0bFyVikOzLU9oZMi-6YxeABkS-9pFZX0-A4_aOh4DQ/s1600/010.JPG" target="_blank">HG Palmer Princess</a> sewing machine, aquired for the sole purpose of sewing through the thick layers of denim. So long that I had forgotten how to thread the thing and spent a good hour trying to get it to sew nice. Turned out I was threading it fine, but had put the needle in the wrong way.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXJxofh7u2b7hmxcf5oh8kTdLIPLI_8yZS8F1PlKNn3_6nHeP9NTb5YUxTPI_yYr4cfC4HXB2BZ7QNRSytK1n9CM90sbIa6-vbwzswfFPQvVDSjPcFcX9_3vg6paUF7ABbD9PczA/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXJxofh7u2b7hmxcf5oh8kTdLIPLI_8yZS8F1PlKNn3_6nHeP9NTb5YUxTPI_yYr4cfC4HXB2BZ7QNRSytK1n9CM90sbIa6-vbwzswfFPQvVDSjPcFcX9_3vg6paUF7ABbD9PczA/s640/017.JPG" width="396" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">This time around, I made a few changes. First, I straighted the leg. I just folded out the flare from the knees down. The other change was using a curved waistband and a contrast fabric for the inner waistband to reduce bulk. I used a waistband from a Burda pattern - I measured the flat pattern at the stitch line and only had to reduce 1cm from the centre back to fit correctly.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHRjGPpsxr3JIfPk_ZxO2KFDMc-0RxI9y9_aDDOQCzkglxiHP01cIDbJ7eb6VGb02CDjQBgFNXoptzq84k9qPlSmPJAXgUhBlp3MKz7N-ad8Lwlpi-NHclinDrpA4UmhkMAznjMg/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHRjGPpsxr3JIfPk_ZxO2KFDMc-0RxI9y9_aDDOQCzkglxiHP01cIDbJ7eb6VGb02CDjQBgFNXoptzq84k9qPlSmPJAXgUhBlp3MKz7N-ad8Lwlpi-NHclinDrpA4UmhkMAznjMg/s640/016.JPG" width="390" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have a heap of back pockets saved on my computer and this one looked the easiest. I made a template on some paper first and used a plate to make the curved lines. Then I just drew the lines on the pockets with chalk. I did forgot to edgestitch the top of the pocket before I sewed it onto the jeans.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2FRm2NA5hSnHblyJ_yWbYCOhyphenhyphenOjbIBAGzWCEy_RCkzZvs-4kUlNwPJLSk_LVdvTf0cwmAB0IeehKxT7msGx_n7qfW_sqd60O7EBQaqEXUcKnS155tS-ioHZJ1i71WH7KWTxxUg/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh2FRm2NA5hSnHblyJ_yWbYCOhyphenhyphenOjbIBAGzWCEy_RCkzZvs-4kUlNwPJLSk_LVdvTf0cwmAB0IeehKxT7msGx_n7qfW_sqd60O7EBQaqEXUcKnS155tS-ioHZJ1i71WH7KWTxxUg/s640/012.JPG" width="290" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">When I make myself another pair, I plan to make the seam allowances wider. The only time I had trouble with the princess was when sewing through just 1 layer of denim (when topstitching the second row, it was just outside of the seam allowance and thus 1 layer only). The thread would break over and over. Yet it never broke at any other stage. This machine lives for sewing through layers. The most layers it achieved was when sewing on the belt loops. The loops are 3 layers, but then they are folded over so that is 6. Add the 4 layers of the waistband with the seam. that is 10 laters of fabric. The jeans only just fit under the presser foot too.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDq7UhDsUUpHAZuE-C1-Vn9OzlKhyphenhyphenPj904d1MtH-RCx9_8AmPxU0jlgrU8DJvOE1pM4fEUYfMbSHzOyZBXiaWgIBpbZPUWynCHn94wjcSXRkXGIbE70mVtQ2SoXxci86GN6jS-Sg/s1600/028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDq7UhDsUUpHAZuE-C1-Vn9OzlKhyphenhyphenPj904d1MtH-RCx9_8AmPxU0jlgrU8DJvOE1pM4fEUYfMbSHzOyZBXiaWgIBpbZPUWynCHn94wjcSXRkXGIbE70mVtQ2SoXxci86GN6jS-Sg/s400/028.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Work has been a lot more stressful than I could have imagined. Weekends have been usy and I have spent too much time surfing the net, looking at everyone's wonderful projects and feeling inadequate with my creative output. I did not feel like blogging about my simple knit fabric projects which were staggeringly easy but all I could manage. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">After spending the first couple of days of my break feeling down in the dumps, I decided to do what I love, even if it not the latest pattern or fabric. I love sewing, I dress for comfort and this is my chance to get out of the rut I am in. I finished these jeans and another dress and have taken photos and I am now feeling very enthused, relaxed and refreshed.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I started teaching my kids to sew last weekend. I had promised my daughter I would teach her over the summer holidays and I do like to keep my promises (although I did procrastinate because I knew it would require a lot of patience on my behalf.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivoBPZGC2LnRee-nNrf75-ku4AYnlcJZCsxYPpLD6-jBdXJao6f3sBCsERgMy0EJN8HtHTAYyttjjX7XYXZdzvA91GsqmizYITgeQwN7WbYZutjshUPVqLzHpIFBnBPI5OBlHUsQ/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivoBPZGC2LnRee-nNrf75-ku4AYnlcJZCsxYPpLD6-jBdXJao6f3sBCsERgMy0EJN8HtHTAYyttjjX7XYXZdzvA91GsqmizYITgeQwN7WbYZutjshUPVqLzHpIFBnBPI5OBlHUsQ/s640/010.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I cut out pieces of fabric for bags from scraps so the bags are just randomly sized. Scott sat on my lap and presssed the pedal while I helped him steer, but Jalisa was able to do it herself following my instructions. I was rather surprised how quickly she picked it up. The photo was taken on the first day back at school (also Scott's first day of school ever). I thought I would be super excited to see him off at school, but I actually cried when I saw him in his uniform for the first time and was anxious the whole day waiting to see how he went. He loves school.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I don't think I have posted pictures of my undies before and these aren't all that exciting anyway, but I think I have found THE perfect unides pattern for me. Kwik Sew 3301. Previously I have used an Ottobre pattern and they have been okay, but these are super comfy. I was a little hesitant to have a seam centre front and back but I can't tell it is there at all.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New;">This is getting embarrassing. I have made yet another pair of shorts. From the same pattern. Not a current or trendy pattern mind you. Just an old Burda magazine one. <span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">In life, when I find something I like, I stick with it and sewing is not much different. </span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New;"></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-00DHCihX1Pg/UPypdTY-vMI/AAAAAAAACDY/ZsNtvRoOTAU/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-00DHCihX1Pg/UPypdTY-vMI/AAAAAAAACDY/ZsNtvRoOTAU/s640/004.JPG" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">The fabric is a wool plaid which I picked up at The Fabric Store last Wednesday. Sewn up yesterday in time to wear back to work.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rpjCQaeN1nw/UPypXT9Es3I/AAAAAAAACDQ/zOYo1eWc1qI/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rpjCQaeN1nw/UPypXT9Es3I/AAAAAAAACDQ/zOYo1eWc1qI/s640/002.JPG" width="210" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I tend not to go for plaid since it can be a nightmare to match up. I cut the pattern peices individually so that I could best match up the lines. Instead of consulting my sewing reference I just dove in and thought I would cut the waistband on the bias grain.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nxSCUTg3Afo/UPyprYan7ZI/AAAAAAAACDo/kgSp3UsK2DQ/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nxSCUTg3Afo/UPyprYan7ZI/AAAAAAAACDo/kgSp3UsK2DQ/s200/016.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGoXUIRWjtk/UPypkzpVXfI/AAAAAAAACDg/0XlToNKsSM4/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGoXUIRWjtk/UPypkzpVXfI/AAAAAAAACDg/0XlToNKsSM4/s400/015.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Once again I finished the facing with voile cut on the bias. I did mean to change the bobbin thread to white to blend with the fabric, but as you can see I forgot too.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;"> </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dpItdl1YjXM/UPypzVEdYBI/AAAAAAAACDw/PE3P3qbh1D0/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dpItdl1YjXM/UPypzVEdYBI/AAAAAAAACDw/PE3P3qbh1D0/s320/017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">My next project is not going to be shorts, but I am not finished with this pattern forever. I really want to make a yellow pair but I need to find the right fabric first.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
