Fabric sale haul

Summer Flies recently posted of another designer fabric sale. This is the third time I have gone and I wasn't disappointed. (2013 sale, 2012 sale)

2m of the pink to make a skater style dress.

I  bought the lace for a special occasion dress. I am thinking of dyeing it first. I bought 2m.

2m of this for a jacket.

I intend to use this for pants. 2m again.

There was only 1m left of the bolt. I think it may be enough for a cardigan.
This was a remnant, so I wasn't able to tell how much there was before buying. There is at least 65cm plus a little extra not the full width.
There was 1m here. I think I will make shorts.

This remnant was 1.8m. I think I have enough for a sheath dress.

This year I am making no promise to use up the fabric before the next sale, like I did last year. The sale was on in August last year, and so far I have managed to sew up 8.05m of the 14.55m purchased (mostly unblogged)

A fabulous fabric sale

I read about this fabulous annual fabric sale on the Summer Flies blog. It was very tempting but since I had bought way too much fabric lately I wasn't going to go. But then my husband convinced me I should go. Isn't he a sweetie?

It took me a while to actually locate the joint and had to circle around the block - the things you do for a good fabric sale. All the fabrics were $6/m and I had to spend quite some time considering the fabrics because I only had a limited amount of cash on me.

I ended up with a brown checked wool, a charcoal mystery fabric, a purple boiled wool and a charcoal linen. From the sounds of it, the boiled wool is the same as Summer Flies bought. It really is a gorgeous colour. They will end up as pants, a jacket and shorts or a skirt.

I really have to get cracking on some sewing. I have no more storage room at all. Well, in the sewing room that is.

For those of you who asked for a picture

Here it is (maybe I should add to my fabric addict list - when you request to see other people's purchases :P) Not much to say - I got over 11 meters of a beige cotton knit, some pink cotton knit, some rayon knit, black stretch drill for cropped work pants and a little bit of voile which I will try to make into butterfly wings *maybe* for Jalisa for Christmas. I while I am writing a blog entry, I thought I should post some more sewing pictures. Mine are so boring because they don't contain any designer fabrics or exciting fabric combinations. This is a little puff sleeves Otto tee (#18 from 1/07) - fabric is hand dyed cotton lycra, pattern is easy peasy. I plan to use it for a little dress soon.
Cotton kimono robe for me. Pattern is from Burda WOF, but I can't remember the issue. Hopefully this will be good for when we go camping and have to use communal showers. Sash is from some marbled dyed fabric.

Another nightie, this time for me. The fabric is a spotted rayon knit (I started with like 12 metres of this stuff, so it is being used for many jammies). I used a vintage Kwik Sew pattern, #717. The pattern is actually a slip but I think it would make a really nice dress pattern for someone with some confidence. I don't really do spaghetti straps in public anymore. I think I am going to alter this to make a singlet pattern.

You know when you are a fabric addict when...

  • buying fabric becomes a hobby in itself
  • you go to de-stash some fabric and can't bear the thought of selling
  • you spend close to three hours in a car in the hope to snare some bargains at a chain store relocation sale

I only bought 21 metres though, at $1 a metre. I saved more money (over $150 if you base it on the original price) than I spent on fuel (less than $20). Hopefully it was worth the whinging from a little boy for half the trip.

Stash

Now, I have been sewing for some time and I make 95% of my clothes and Jalisa's...

This shelf is children's woven fabric
This is some leftover polar fleece and other smaller knit - only good for baby clothes or something. In the background is a bag full of knits for me that I forgot to get a picture of.

Hmm, just a couple of pieces of knit - plus my sewing magazine collection.

This shows a bag of terry knit, a box of slinky knit and a pile of smaller cuts suitable for clothes for Scott - some of it was gifted to me.

Two shelves of fabric for me. Top is woven, bottom is knits (there are also a few gifted ribbing pieces shoved in there - oops)

The two nappy boxes are full of knits (like french terry etc) for tracksuits. Plus this is where all my newer boy fabric has been shoved.

Bottom drawer is full of various knits. Top draw is for patterns.
Bag of fat quarters and half yard cuts of "cool" fabric. Have also bought a few tees to applique - (need to cut down on some of my sewing somehow).

I also have just washed a small pile. Now that I think about it, the fabrics for me would last longer than the kids stuff because I am only adding to my wardrobe rather than needing new things constantly. Plus adult fabric cuts take up more room.

Latest purchases and b'day mail

Jalisa will need some new PJ pants this winter, so I bought these flannelette prints;
The pink fabric is a *feathers* knit, which was bought to line her winter jacket with (I am thinking of using a black and white houndstooth-like fabric that I have in the stash for the outer portion of the jacket). The lilac is a burntout voile - something to stash for next summer.
Thanks Cindy and Mick for the *retro* books you sent. My book was first published in the 1920 and man is it a hoot. Unfortuntely for the author, I picked up no useful information from the book. Wayne's Manners for Me looks like a good read too.

Holiday purchases

The leaf print cotton on the left is to make this dress - *maybe* for next summer, no promises though. The paper doll fabric will make something for Jalisa - a bag maybe. The muslin is for another baby wrap, maybe for SIL's new bubba. I did also buy some white interlock knit in preparation of buying some procion dyes!

I also bought this pattern - and I am excited that I actually have a piece of fabric in the stash long enough for the skirt project (perfect for the CM January theme challenge of crafting for oneself!)
